Chelsi Mina Johnston is a Japanese-American editor from Honolulu, Hawai’i based in Los Angeles. Her first feature film as editor, “Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake),” premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in the US Dramatic Competition. Other short films that she’s edited include 2023 Outfest premiere “Brush,” 2020 Camerimage premiere “Lady Cameraman” and 2018 Tribeca premiere “Cosmic Debris."

Chelsi has worked as an assistant editor for some of the industry’s top editors on award-winning TV shows and films such as 2023 Emmy-nominated limited series “Daisy Jones & the Six,” 2021 Oscar-nominated film “Being the Ricardos” directed by Aaron Sorkin, and Netflix’s 2020 film “Moxie” directed by Amy Poehler.

Chelsi has also directed short films, including “Driving,” which premiered at the 2019 Hawai’i International Film Festival in her hometown, and her love for music has led her to direct and edit several music videos, some of which have been seen on Stereogum, Paste Magazine, and Refinery29.

Chelsi received her BA from Santa Clara University and her MFA in Film Directing/Production from UCLA. She’s a proud memeber of IATSE’s Local 700 Editors Union and the ACE Diversity Mentorship program.
